Engl - Ravello Music Festival 2009
The Ravello Festival is the oldest Italian music festival, along with the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino. The Festival was originally dedicated to the music of Wagner, but as time went by editions evolved into their current form. The common theme for 2008 is "Difference". The Festival includes over one-hundred events organized in eight Sections, each in honor of one of the great artists who have stayed and who were inspired in Ravello: Symphonic music, Chamber music, Trends, Special events, Cinemusic, Visual arts, Musical promenades and Training. The Symphonic Music Section, the main event of the festival is closely connected to the name of Wagner, who stayed in Ravello in 1880. The Chamber Music Section dedicated to Edvard Grieg, who stayed in Ravello in 1884, includes a series of concerts ranging over the different types of chamber music. The Visual Arts Section dedicated to Maurits Cornelis Escher is divided into three exhibitions open throughout the duration of the Festival, including an exhibition of Oliviero Toscani, "Bianco e nero a colori" that lays bare the contradictions of our mediatic culture. The Trends Section, is dedicated to dance and musicals. The Cinemusic Section, directed by Lina Wertmuller. In a series of screenings, encounters and live concerts, the Section analyses the indissoluble relationship between film and music, with a special look at video clips in the accompanying ClipMusic. Where: The events are set in unforgettable settings such as Villa Rufolo and Villa Cimbrone, as well as in the squares, churches and gardens of Ravello.
