"Bring classical theatre back to the sites of classical antiquity". This has been the idea guiding Velia Teatro for the last eleven years: a review of tragic and comic expression in ancient theatre that has taken place in the archaeological area of Elea-Velia since the summer of 1998. An exceptional site of unique historic and cultural value: the place wher the famous philosopher, Parmenides, was born and lived in the 5th century B.C., the site of an important colony of Magna Graecia, now under the protection of UNESCO as a world heritage of Mankind. The festival "Velai theater" intends to develop and renew the aspirations elaborated over the past years, giving space to ancient classical theatre, Greek and Roman, comedy and tragedy, and more. Because again, in 2009, this event will promote "philosophical" theatre, already tested through "VeliaTeatroFilosofia" in 2008, and all the more appealing in the place that was home to Parmenides, his disciple, Zeno, and the seat of an influential school of thought.
