To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the lunar landing on 20 July 1969 Rome has planned a series of moving cultural, artistic and scientific events. Events are collectively known as "THE MOON IS 40 YEARS OLD. Reliving the conquest of a dream. The anniversary of the lunar landing."

- 30 Jun - 18 Jul- "Stregati dalla Luna nella Città delle storie disabitate" at Teatro India.
- 17 - 21 Jul -"Stelle e pianeti nel cielo di Roma" (Stars and planets in the Roman sky) on the Pincio.
For locals and tourists alike an area of telescopes are available from which it will be possible to connected with the public observatory at the Museo Geopaleontologico (Geology & paleontological Museum) in Rocca di Cave.
- 20 - 29 Jul - "L'astro della notte sbarca al Planetario" (the night lights disembark at the planetarium) at the Planetarium and Astronomic Museum of Rome. A weeklong series of events including star gazing, astronomical shows, conferences, cinema, games, performing arts and multimedia.
- "THE MOON IS 40 YEARS OLD. Reliving the conquest of a dream. The anniversary of the lunar landing" culminates on 20 July with a magnificent commemorative evening in Piazza del Popolo at 9:00 pm. At midnight the pizza will echo to the sounds of Moby.
