Engl - Early Theatre and Masks from 15 august to 11 january 2010, Naples
A cross-section of the Roman theater's history, expecially the one regarding Campania and Pompeii. The exhibition itinerary starts from the display of famous art works relative to the origins of the Greek theatre, among which the Attic crater with red figures known as Pronomos Vase. On exhibit are stateues, mosaics, frescoes, masks and marble and terracotta relief that explain the appearance of the masks and costumes and lively interest in the theatrical portrayals of decorators and clients in Pompeii, Campania and the Roman world in general. The many Pompeian decorations are understood in light of the intensive theatre activity in Pompeii: since the 2nd century B.C., the city has been endowed with a great masonry theatre and an Odeion for the execution of musical works. The journey of the exhibit leads towards a multiform world, composed of dance, recitation, music, mime, and refined culture, but also mass entertainment. The event is part of the cultural proposals of "journey through arts" promoted by Campania Region.
